Ogniana Vakavlieva was born in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1972. Her first higher education is Economic Sciences (University of National and World Economy – Sofia), but she has never stopped her artistic practices. The decisive turn to professional arts she made in Barcelona, between 1998 and 1999 where she graduated Decorative Painting – decorative techniques on walls, plaster and wood surfaces, trompe l’oeuil technique. She worked on the renovation of buildings from the Modernist period and on private artistic projects. She lived and worked in Spain for 8 years. In Malaga (South of Spain) she found and managed an Art gallery dedicated to present Art from East European artists in Spain (Elektra Art Gallery). In 2002 she obtained a postgraduate qualification Organization and Management of Cultural Institutions at Open Catalan University – Barcelona, Spain. Back in Bulgaria in 2004 she started to work at International Relations Department at National Academy of Arts in Sofia. The eight years spend in contact with students, teachers and more than 40 Academies of Arts and Universities all over the world was a precious experience. In 2018. she graduated in Design of Porcelain and Glass at the National Academy of Arts, and specialized in Pedagogy in the Arts, in the same academy.

For more than 15 years she has been working together as a freelance artist and art manager. From December 2018 she is a PhD student in Sculpture department at National Academy of Art – Sofia, Bulgaria. Working on this research level is for her the logical and deeply wanted reconciliation between art practice and theory approach to arts. Her research theme is Women artists in Sculpture in Bulgaria. Small scale sculpture in the period 60s-80s of the XX century.
